Club History

Leckhampton Rovers Football Club was formed by a few Dad’s back in 1996 to provide facilities for 20 boys and girls who wanted to kick a ball around.

We were very fortunate that the then Head Teacher of Leckhampton Primary School allowed us to use their playing field facilities and this has continued, thanks to successive Head Teachers, to the current day.

Since 1996 the demand for Youth football in the area has escalated to the extent that the Club now has 24 youth teams, aged 9 to 18, in the Cheltenham Youth League.

We also have a Saturday morning Academy, run throughout the year at the University of Gloucestershire The Park campus, and is attended by circa 60 boys and girls aged 4 to 8.

In 2009, we identified a need to form a Men’s team due to the progression through the Under 16s, together with demand for football from students at the University of Gloucestershire. This demand continued and we are now proud to have 2 successful adult teams in The Cheltenham Association Football League with 56 registered players.

In 2015 we formed a new Veterans team, and we now compete in the Gloucestershire Veterans League. In conjunction with the University of Gloucestershire (UoG) we have formed a “Hub Club". This formalised a relationship we had with UoG where students, from a range of courses, helped deliver coaching sessions, assisting teams on match days, and supporting the club with administration and development projects.

We are a FA Chartered Standard Club and in 2013 were the Gloucester Citizen and Cheltenham Echo Community Club of the Year
